Bandelier National Monument
On Oct 22, we went up to Bandelier NM, NW of Santa Fe. The ancient pueblo people abandoned this valley about 500 years ago after it could no longer sustain them. They had homes in caves and structures they built along the canyon walls, adjacent to existing caves. Spaniards arrived after the pueblo people had left.

The canyon, formed of tuff, compressed volcanic ash, was soft and soluble. Water created many interesting patterns in the vertical rock faces.
