Temple Abu Simbel

The Great Temple built by Ramesses the Great (circa 1265 BC) was in the area to be flooded by the Aswan high dam. The temple was saved by cutting into blocks (avg 20 tons), raised 65 meters and moved back 200 meters and reconstructed.
